Single Stories

Single Stories are just that, a one sided version of what that person perceives as the truth. It tells a story from the story teller's point of view, not necessarily taking into account the other perspectives which could sum up the entire story.
Just recently,my son was in a car wreck and seriously injured. As the story made it rounds, his high school community became the "main story" and the wreck began to be tweeted and blogged. It became a version about high school kids out of control and not that a student from the local high school lost control of his vehicle on black ice returning from soccer practice. The truth was lost in the story of drugs surrounding students at the high school. Using the news and tv and even questioning others involved could help people understand that not all high school students are involved in drugs. There are great kids there too.
As we went to Atlanta, I had heard horrible stories of the hustle and bustle but as we spent many weeks there, we changeed our minds. It is a huge place with many people willing to help out and were friendly as they are at home. Using the Atlanta Guides and questioning people from the area, we learned where to go and what to see to give us a well rounded guide of their community.
Using a game design to allow users to navigate and learn everything about a community will be not just fun and interactive but allow a taste of what around that town. It can open up a whole new world!
